Secret notesare collectibles that can be unlocked by going toBus stopvanThe farmduring the dayWinterbetween 6 and 16. The player sees a cutscene showing a "Shadow Guy" (which could beCrobus) gets scared and runs away. After watching the video, the search"A Winter Mystery"is added to the player's diary.
Shadow Guy's footprints lead to a bush next to the playground, on the leftBurgerhuis. If the player interacts with the bush, Shadow Guy will pop out, apologizing for stealing it, the player aMagnifying glass, and then run away. The magnifying glass allows the player to find secret notes while digging, chopping trees, mining, fishing or killing monsters.
Once found, a secret note can be read by selecting it in the top row of the inventory and right-clicking (as if you were eating food). This will add the note to the player's collection and activate the secret note collection tab in the player menu.
Some banknotes feature 'beloved' gifts for certain characters, while others feature images of puzzle solutions. When you read notes indicating gift preferences, the gifts are added to the villager's gift log in the Social tab of the player menu.
Secret notes can be gifted, but so are they alluniversally hated.

Sources of Secret Notes
The following table shows the different actions that can produce a secret note.
The "Probability" column below indicates the probability that the game will occurattemptto create a secret tone. When such an attempt is made, the game makes an additional check to see if this is successful, based on the number of notes of the correct type (Journal Scraps on Ginger Island, regular Secret Notes elsewhere) the player has already found. If all notes are found, the check fails. Otherwise, the probability of success is a linear function of the number of notes found, with an 80% chance of success if no notes are found and a 12% chance of success if all but one are found.[1].
