We all know Thor, Thanos and the Hulk, but what about Squirrel Girl? Who is she? Is she a girl who looks like a squirrel or a girl who summons squirrels? Does she eat acorns for a living? Why is someone named Squirrel Girl on this list? Who is the most powerful Marvel character?
From infamous names we've come to love (and hate) to lesser-known eccentrics who've flown under the radar, Marvel has gathered some power under its belt of characters over the years. Divided between the most powerful characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel Comics, these next 25 characters hold their own without a hitch. But if we pit them against each other, how do they compare?
The Most Powerful Marvel Cinematic Universe Characters
14. The thing
Actually, The Thing is a stone wall and at first glance a formidable opponent. Although he has a similar build to the Hulk and relies on his pure brute strength as his main weapon, the Hulk is much more unpredictable with his anger, allowing his power to grow even further. The case is much more grounded, but although he has enhanced senses, his weaknesses lie in his lack of other strengths. Being a tank is great, but if it's all you rely on, it makes it harder to deal with certain enemies.
While we know The Thing hasn't appeared in an MCU movie yet, with a Fantastic Four movie on the way, as well as Mister Fantastic's cameo inMultiverse of madnessit's only a matter of time before he makes his debut.
13. Glutton

Made of impenetrable skin and with the ability to heal himself, Wolverine is even more unstoppable with his retractable adamantium claws. A notable member of the the years.
James Howlett, also known as Logan, became Wolverine after watching his father, Thomas (who was also the gardener), shoot and kill his stepfather. This spurred young James to develop his claws and killed his father.
12. Syn
Ultron and Helen Cho created Vision from vibranium and the Mind Stone, giving this new synthezoid incredible powers. Although he was designed to become Ultron, Vision eventually became an independent, living being capable of almost every superhuman ability, along with a brilliant intellect.
Vision does not rely on weapons and instead uses bursts of energy, body and skin manipulation, and strength to defeat enemies. But if he ever has to pick up Thor's hammer again, he'll be one of the few who can do it.
11. Iron Man
While the Iron Man suit may be responsible for inflicting the insane amount of damage it can do, the man behind the suit is the true mastermind behind it all: Tony Stark. Played by Robert Downey Jr. in the MCU, Iron Man is not only a powerful ally, but he is also one of the crew's de facto leaders – a constant beacon in dark times.
Of course, the man has a super-genius mental intellect that allows him to constantly be at the forefront, both in the inventions he makes and on the battlefield. Physically, Iron Man gains superhuman strength in his suit, being able to fire energy blasts, run and fly at extremely high speeds, absorb energy, and defend himself against outside radiation or other biological attacks.
10. Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange is a master of the arcane arts and is well versed in sorcery, having once been the head of sorcery himself. He can form shields and other energy blasts from Eldrich. Magic is capable of astral projection and uses a variety of spells that have different effects on his enemies. Additionally, Doctor Strange can travel through portals created by the Sling Rings, allowing him and others to move back and forth between different dimensions of the multiverse.
9. Catching Miracle
Carol Danvers, better known as Captain Marvel, is a rather underrated Avenger, as she is basically a human missile that can punch through almost anything. After suffering the effects of a massive explosion, the alien powers of the Tesseract were infused into her, granting Captain Marvel superhuman strength and power.
She is also able to fly, create cosmic energy blasts, absorb the effects of incredible forces, and create photon blasts. While some may argue that she is the most powerful Avenger (myself included), ultimately Hulk and Thor have such incredible raw power that it would be difficult for her to defeat them in battle.
8. Hulk
One of the most recognizable superheroes of all time, the Hulk is defined by his gamma-ray-powered strength, the strength of which is determined by the amount of rage he has stored in his body. Although he is a gentle giant through and through, that doesn't stop him from being a formidable opponent to virtually any enemy that comes his way. In addition to his strength, he also had incredible jumping and healing abilities, regenerates himself, and can quickly adapt to different environments.
7. Thor
Although Thor and Hulk are neck-and-neck in the battle of strength, where Thor really wins is within his control of power: Hulk is more volatile, which gives him less control over his abilities. Thor is a steadfast leader and only one of the few people with the ability to lift his iconic hammer, Mjolnir, which is enchanted and can absorb astronomical levels of energy. As the son of Odin, king of Asgard, Thor always had to fight for justice, which he still does as a member of the Avengers.
6. Adam Wizard
He is all set to make his first appearanceGuardians of the Galaxy: Vol.3where he will be played by Will Poulter, Adam Warlock was created by a group of scientists trying to create the perfect human. In the MCU, Adam Warlock is created by Ayesha, the leader of the sovereign race.
She hopes to use Adam to destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy, who betrayed her in the previous film.
In the comics, he has superhuman strength, speed, agility and durability. Oh, he can also fly, manipulate energy, manipulate matter, and is also a master of magic. It remains to be seen how powerful he will be in the MCU, but he will certainly be one of the heavy hitters.
5. Dormammu
This dimension-surfing entity is feared by all, especially Doctor Strange, who has encountered the creature more than once. Ruler of the Dark Dimension, Dormammu can astral project, use the highest levels of sorcery, banish enemies from his dimension, time travel, regenerate, revive, teleport and more. Basically, this entity can do pretty much anything you mention, plus it already has natural superhuman strength; But being universally feared may be his greatest trait of all.
4. Thanos
What? Did you put Thanos as number two? Iknow– but I have my reasons, the first being that without the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos' power will certainly diminish. Thanos can project cosmic energy onto his opponents, has superhuman strength, is telepathic and immortal (well, sort of). While Thanos has a host of incredible powers and brute strength, there is certainly one person who could blow him out of the galaxy...
3. Professor X
...and it's Professor X. While Thanos could crush him physically, Professor Thanos also has telepathy, but not to the extremely advanced level of Professor X. The influence of Professor
On a more emotional side, he has a much purer soul than someone like Thanos; Professor X simply wants to bring peace and coexistence to the world. His goal is to make everyone show acceptance, regardless of whether he is a mutant or not, as he himself is. Professor In short, you don't want to encounter Professor X in a fight.
2. The heavenly
Older than the universe itself, the Celestials first appearedEternallyand are responsible for the Big Bang. Their mission is to create new members of their race, and they achieve this by raising planets and races to their peak and then allowing a celestial body to be created from the planet's core.
IEternally, the Celestials nearly succeed in their mission to destroy Earth by creating a new member of their race. However, they are stopped by the Eternals team at the film's climax.
1. The Scarlet Witch
While some argue that the Scarlet Witch shouldn't be counted out because she uses sorcery and other forms of magical manipulation to fight, they are superpowers regardless of their type. An underrated Avenger, Wanda Maximoff is much stronger than she seems, with the abilities of telepathy, mental and energy manipulation, force field creation, and telekinesis. What she can do with her powers is virtually limitless; it just depends on the task.
After the events ofMultiverse of madness, it's clear that the only person who can stop the Scarlet Witch is herself. Her current status is uncertain, but if there's one thing we know about Marvel, it's that if you don't see a body, the person isn't quite dead.
The most powerful Marvel Comics characters
16. Submarine
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
A lesser-known superhero, the Sub-Mariner has gone by a number of names over the years, with the first name being Namor McKenzie. Being part merman and part mutant, he calls upon a variety of powers to complete his missions, all rooted in his innate superhuman abilities.
While it thrives underwater, the Sub-Mariner can survive both on and off land because it can live in freezing temperatures and has vision that allows it to see straight through murky water. In addition, he can absorb radiation, talk to underwater animals, control certain parts of the weather, and fly.
15. Molecuulmens
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
Formerly known as Owen Reece, Molecule Man follows his name almost straight to the point. He is able to control molecules and energy with his mind as a result of exposure to radiation. He uses this ability to create force fields and portals and transform different forms of matter into completely different species simply by using his mind.
While these are all incredible powers, he has imposed his weaknesses on himself, as he has unconsciously suppressed some of his abilities, causing him to enter a kind of mental spiral about the values of his powers.
14. The silver surfer
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
Another very recognizable Marvel character, you can tell the Silver Surfer is a bearer of good vibes just one look at him. I mean, he's a metallic airsurfer with a matching surfboard – what more could you want from a superhero? The Silver Surfer, formerly known as Norrin Radd, can navigate the galaxies without a spaceship - all he needs is himself. His other abilities include molecular rearrangement, super speed, and of course the Power Cosmic, which he received from Galactus.
13. Row shop
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
Although his full name is Blackagar Boltagon, he is called Black Bolt, which directly refers to his ability to harness electrons and use their energy for various forms of manipulation, gravity defying, and telepathy. Due to high levels of dangerous sonic energy emanating from his voice, he was kept in a soundproof room as a child, although he learned to communicate in other ways later in life.
12. Super Skrull
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
We all know about the shape-shifting Skrulls, but the Super-Skrull is the next level. Kl'rt, the Super-Skrull, is insanely strong, although his downside is that he is slightly more sensitive to damage and fatigue than a normal human. Despite this, he is expertly trained in combat and has a bit of mimicry up his sleeve, allowing him to take on all the powers of the Fantastic Four, but at a much higher level, namely a Super-Skrull.
11. Squirrel
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
Probably one of the most underrated and forgotten superheroes, Squirrel Girl – aka Doreen Green – is capable of much more than she gives her credit for. And yes, she is exactly what she sounds like: with the power to turn herself into a huge squirrel. She has superhuman strength and adopts all the qualities of the squirrel, albeit in much greater proportions. She also has night vision, impressive jaw strength/bite, fast healing abilities, and squirrel-like agility. One of her greatest achievements is using her horde of squirrels to stop the Maelstrom from wiping out the entire world - no biggie.
Oh, and she once defeated Thanos all by herself. Nothing special.
10. Doctor Doom
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
Doctor Doom really brings the heat as the supreme leader of Latveria, using a variety of mystical tools to help him defeat enemies. Doctor Doom has a full metal suit and can travel through multiple dimensions via portals, casting spells and summoning dark creatures. A surprising note about Doctor Doom: he is also very creative and artistic, can make beautiful paintings and is an extremely talented pianist. Although he seems menacing on the outside, on the inside he's really just a big softie (at least that's what I tell myself).
9. Magnetic
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
Max Eisenhardt, better known as Magneto, is an Omega-level mutant, long hailed as one of the most powerful of the pack. As foreshadowed in his name, Magneto has complete control over the various types of magnetism in the Galaxy, which he can manipulate for many purposes during his travels and missions.
8. Phoenix
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
Jean Grey, aka Phoenix, was only able to tap into the Phoenix Force in a near-death experience after using telepathy on her dying friend, Annie Richardson. After another near-death incident on a space shuttle, the Phoenix Force appeared again to save her life, except this time the two joined forces and took over part of Grey's consciousness and her body as his own. This made Gray one of the most powerful superheroes, given her newfound connection with the all-powerful Phoenix Force.
7. Galactus
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
While it's sometimes hard to ignore the fact that Squidward as Krakatoa resembles Galactus, I'd say there are some pretty solid differences between the two characters. Weighing just 18 tons and measuring nearly 30 feet tall, Galactus's stature alone is intimidating, not to mention his abilities.
Born as Galan and reborn as Galactus after being saved by the Phoenix Force, he harnessed all the power that came with maintaining the collision of an entire universe. This makes him practically invincible because he carries the Cosmic Power within him.
6. Zeus
Oh, Zeus. As part of both Greek mythology and the Marvel Universe, it's no surprise that he is the supreme leader of the Olympians and has complete control of the heavens above. While there are certainly other Olympians, Zeus' powers are greatly enhanced because he is the all-powerful leader of the pack - well, except for his son Hercules, who is more powerful.
Zeus can cast spells, use magic, change shape, create electrical energy, fly and has superhuman strength. Not only is he an insanely strong enemy, but his defenses are next level, as he is resistant to virtually any form of damage, can heal himself through regeneration, and has extremely tough body tissue. Because of all this, the man is immortal.
5. Heracles
Even stronger than his father, Zeus, is Herculesdoesn'tsomeone you want to mess with. Being an Olympian-human hybrid makes him a little more down to earth in contrast to some of the other high and mighty Olympians. But his powers make you forget he's even partially human.
Hercules is best known for his immensely divine strength, surpassing almost anyone in the universe. Like his father, Hercules is also immortal and can regenerate his own health, making him both an indestructible and insurmountable opponent.
4. The passerby
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
'The man behind itSecret WarsThe Beyonder is perhaps the most powerful villain in all of Marvel. He was originally a member of a race also known as the Beyonders. He was accidentally brought to Earth and began observing our species.
He eventually created a planet known as Battleworld, where he forced heroes like the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four to fight villains like Doctor Doom and Galactus.
He possesses the power to create and destroy planets, change the laws of physics, and even destroy the universe itself, all with a single thought.
3. Eternity
Another all-powerful entity, Eternity, has been in the spotlight quite a bit lately as the creature has been featuredThor: Love and thunder. There are pretty much only two other entities stronger than Eternity (more on that later), which means this thing isNicepowerful.
A personification of both time itselfInall contained within the universe, the powers of eternity are truly limitless. Not only can the creature manipulate time, magic, energy, and reality, but it can transform itself into any living creature on Earth.
2. The Living Tribunal
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
The Living Tribunal, a three-faced being who presides over the entire multiverse, was created by the One Over All (which we'll get to in a moment). It is not tied to a single universe, it oversees everything and ensures that the entire multiverse runs smoothly. The MCU could have used him after thatLoke,Multiverse of madness, InSpider-Man: No way home!
He predates the creation of all universes, and he has the ability to resolve conflicts between universes and prevent anyone from destroying existence itself.
1. The whole
Billed credit: Marvel Comics
Without a doubt, The One Above All is the most powerful character in all of Marvel Comics. How do we know? Well, the one above all is literally God.
The creator of every being in existence, The One Above All, is the ultimate force for good in all multiverses. As they say, “I am all-powerful, but my only weapon is love.”
On the other hand, the one who is above all is also the one below all (also called the Devil), and acts as a necessary counterbalance to the one who is above all.
