During the latest episode of the Office Ladies podcast:Jenna Fischerand Angela Kinsey reflected on one of the more serious momentsThe office.The scene was from season 3, episode 12 "Back From Vacation", in which Fischer's character Pam was comforted by Dwight, who was played by Rainn Wilson.
The photo shows Pam crying in private after helping Jim (John Krasinski) get through his first fight with his then-girlfriend Karen (Rashida Jones). Pam initially insists that she wanted to help, but her dedication eventually causes her to collapse. Dwight walks in on Pam sobbing and hands her a handkerchief before awkwardly assuming her tears were due to PMS.
“Angela, I saw this scene and it brought tears to my eyes because I remember recording it so clearly,” Fischer said during the podcast, as reported byMashable."This was just at the beginning of the show, and every time we had really emotional scenes, like the parking lot scene between Jim and Pam, we kind of shut everything down. And I remember we shut the set down and that it took hours to prepare and film this crying scene."
Fischer continuedThe officeshowrunner Greg Daniels really pushed for real tears, which she said was quite a challenge.
"They didn't want to put fake tears in my eyes... He really wanted me to go there," the actress recalled. "This is a really big challenge for an actor. And so what they did was they did everything very quietly and no one talked to me for about half an hour. I put on the saddest music I could find, and it was sad because it was so.” personally for me… It was music that brought back memories of breakups – music that I listened to at various times in my life when I was going through a particularly difficult time – so it brought up a lot of emotions.
Kinsey said she also became emotional while rewatching the scene, especially seeing Rainn's authentic reaction come through.
“You really wanted to do well and you made all the preparations,” Kinsey said. “And when I saw it again, Jenna, it brought tears to my eyes, it's so beautiful. And I think I see Rainn as Dwight bursting into tears. But Dwight certainly wouldn't burst into tears, but I think Rainn , your friend, tears as he watches, you cry...
"I just saw Rainn. I just saw him and he was crying and he had to snap back at Dwight and say, 'You're PMSing pretty hard, aren't you?'" she said, laughing.
Fischer said it was difficult for Rainn to stay fully in character in the scene because the sight of Pam crying made him emotional.
"Rainn just couldn't do that scene without empathizing with Pam. Every time we did a shoot, he would burst into tears while I was crying harder," she said. without feeling their pain, and we know that about Rainn. That's something we love about Rainn, and when I saw that in the scene, I missed Rainn so much, because that's who Rainn is to me on a personal level.
