The relationship betweenMichael GuerinInAlex Manesis an on-again romance from the science fiction series The CWRoswell, New Mexico. The characters are played byMichael VlamisInTyler Blackburn.

Overview[]

Michael and Alex have a close, complex relationship as they are both at different points in their lives. Their bond is strained by Alex's knowledge that Michael is an alien, and Alex's family's history and treatment of aliens. Despite this, Alex stands up for Michael at every opportunity.

The relationship is further strained due to Michael's connection withMaria De Lucaand when Alex ends the relationship with Michael, the latter begins a relationship with Maria. That ended in the season 2 finale. After Michael and Alex reunite in season 3.

Michael and Alex are now together and married. Alex changed his last name to Guerin

History[]

The relationship between Michael and Alex has a complicated history. The two were both initially afraid to acknowledge their connection, and Alex refused to accept his sexuality. Nevertheless, when Alex became aware that Michael was having trouble sleeping, he alerted him to a cabin near his house where Michael could sleep. The two later sleep together.

The next morning, Alex's father,Jesse Manes, holds the two together and attacks Alex. Michael tries to protect him and Jesse attacks Michael with a hammer, breaking the bones in his left hand.^[1]This event occurred the same night that Rosa Ortecho died, an event that Michael and Max helped cover up, believing Isobel was to blame. The two events caused significant pressure on Michael, causing him to fall out and get into trouble with the law. Alex found this difficult to deal with and eventually left Michael because of it, causing Roswell to join the Air Force while Michael was in prison.

Michael and Alex's reunion is awkward after Alex's return to Roswell. The two talk and Michael warns Alex that he has to move his caravan because the US military has taken ownership of the land. Although Michael is not happy, the two joke about the situation. Michael tries to flirt with Alex, but the latter reprimands him and says they can't go the same way as last time.^[2]

After connecting the previous night, Alex is alerted when Isobel pulls up to the trailer. Fearing that the two will be caught, Michael goes outside to talk to Isobel alone, covering up the fact that he and Alex spent the night together. Later that night, Alex notices Michael illegally selling goods in the back of his truck and confronts him about it; Michael agrees to quit.^[3]

A few days later, Michael tells Max to forget his and Isobel's involvement in sending Liz away. Max notes that Michael would feel the same if he had sent Alex away against her will.^[4]

Alex is later torn between his feelings and loyalty to Michael when he hacks into his father's secret computers and discovers that Michael is an alien and is marked as extremely dangerous. Alex tries to say the opposite, but deep down he is aware that the fact may be true.^[5]

Later Alex shows upSanders' autoand tells Michael that he really wants to get to know him. The two talk and Michael reveals the truth about his alien past. After Michael shows him the alien bunker - and the remains of the ship - Alex realizes that the alien artifact he is carrying is part of Michael, Isobel and Max's ship; however, he does not reveal this to Michael.^[6]Beforehand, however, it is made clear to Michael that the two are no longer in a relationship.

After arrival atCaulfieldIn prison, Michael accidentally sets off the alarm when he breaks the glass in his mother's cell. Alex begs Michael to leave the aliens and escape with him, but Michael is unwilling to take his advice, citing that they are his family. After consideration, Alex admits that Michael is his family and he cannot live without him. In an attempt to force Alex to leave him and the aliens, Michael rebukes his love for Alex, citing that he does not care about or love him.

In season 3, episode 8, Michael and Alex kiss and resume their relationship.

In season 3, episode 10, Michael and Alex sleep together.

Season 4 Michael moves in with Alex in the first episode. Episode 11 Alex proposes and Michael says yes, he's so in love with him it's embarrassing. Episode 13 They get married.

Michael:"You have to go, Alex."

Alex:'I won't look away, Guerin. No.'

Michael:"Go! Go! I don't love you! I don't! We've been holding onto this thing! And then what? It hasn't gotten us anywhere. Just let it go."

The next day, Alex arrives at Michael's trailer in an attempt to reveal something about their relationship and the events that took place in the trailer.CaulfieldJail. Michael tells Alex that there needs to be a discussion, but he leaves frantically when he has a vision of Noah.^[7]The next morning, when Michael returns to his caravan, he finds a note from Alex attached to a guitar that he left behind. Michael becomes enraged by the situation and returns the guitar to Alex, mentioning that he doesn't want to be dragged in and pushed away anymore; the two end up, much to Alex's dismay, who begins to tear up. Shortly afterwards, however, Michael admits that he loves Alex but needs a distraction.^[8]

Michael later reinforces the act of not loving Alex - despite this being a lie - when he tells Alex that they should not work together because he loves and enjoys being around Maria.^[9]

Michael: You can't know that.

Alex: Yes, I can. If it was you, I wouldn't cover it up. I would burn the whole world down first.
