Rand Pardee Center for a longer reach of the longer reach and the future human condition tries to give insight into how today's actions can improve the future of humanity.A list of examples in which organizations of public and private sector explicitly act after a long -term point of view.
Long -term decisionsOccurs when it thinks about potential events for decades or more in the future that decision makers are considering and can choose actions in the short term than they would otherwise pursue.
For example:
Policy to tackle climate change: National and local authorities around the world have promised plans to significantly reduce or eliminate their greenhouse gas emissions in the mid -century to prevent damage to climate change that would unfold for decades in the future.Climate change has become more visible, the statements of decision -makers and the importance of long -term environmental assessments such as those produced by the intergovernmental panel of climate change (IPCC) suggest that the actions of governments are influenced in the short term by the expectation of potential events in the future.
Our. Constitution: As was clear from the archives of the debates on the Philadelphia Convention, many provisions of the American Constitution were influenced by the expectations of how the new country could grow in the future. And the other in states intended to preserve the rights of the original small coastal states while the country expanded to the interior of North America.
Versailles Tract: Based on their explained visions and goals, the leaders of the victorious allied powers who all sought, ultimately without success, a peace scheme that would prevent another continental war for the coming decades.
Not all decisions with long -term influences represent long -term decisions.Decades, but business goals on Maps Tight explains his most important choices in the short term.
