The fastest writing speed

The fastest typing speed ever recorded was 216 words per minute (wpm), set by Stella Pajunas in 1946 using an IBM electric typewriter. Currently the fastest English-speaking typist is Barbara Blackburn, who achieved a maximum typing speed of 212 wpm with a simplified Dvorak keyboard during a 2005 test.

The average wpm rate is only 41.4 words per minute. This is well below the speeds of the record holders, or even below the speeds needed to succeed in the working world. However, it is considered a good writing speed.

Who writes faster?

The average typing speed for boys is 44 words per minute. This is slightly faster than girls who are no less than 7 words per minute slower at 37 wpm. This seems a bit strange because statistics show that girls enjoy practicing their writing skills more than boys.
