How to start a co-op farm in Stardew Valley with multiplayer (2024)

Stardew Valley's co-op makes multiplayer easier than ever, now that the farming simulation has online and split-screen options to play with friends. You can mix and match the way you and your friends work together on your farm with options to split resources and control how your game works with multiple farmers present. Stardew Valley's co-op suits your playstyle.

Co-op farming relies on the Cabin Farm building, which you can purchase from Robin. The host must have cabins for each friend (maximum 3) on his farm. Fortunately, each hut can be cheaply built into an existing single-player save. You can also start a new multiplayer farm with pre-built huts.

Save files are stored on the host player's machine, meaning others cannot continue playing after the host leaves the game. We'll start with the fastest and easiest way to play Stardew Valley multiplayer with your friends, and also share some tips on how to be most effective as a farming team.

The fastest and easiest way to start a multiplayer farm is from scratch. In the 'co-op' section of the main menu you can join a friend's farm or choose to start your own.

If you want to be able to invite your friends straight away, set the number of 'starer huts' to the number of farmers who are coming along. Each partner must have a cabin to participate. You can also opt for the Four Corners farm map, which is specially designed to give as many as four farmers their own space to farm on the same land.

You can also invite a friend via a LAN connection or by sending him/her the invite code in the options menu in the multiplayer section. Your co-op partner can find options to join a LAN game or enter an invite code in the co-op section of his or her main menu. The "invite friends" option allows you to send an invite to the person you want to play with via your Steam or GOG friends list. You can also open your game to play in split screen.

Your additional players should now have their own section of your screen to play on.

If you want to turn your solo farm into a cooperative farm, don't worry. It's easy. Visit Robin's shop and build up to three huts for everyone you want to invite. They're pretty cheap, so even if you're just starting a new farm, you should be able to quickly create a place for your girlfriend by bringing her 100 gold and 10 stones or 10 wood. Robin builds huts instantly, so you don't have to wait days into the game for your friend to join you. Once found, you can now invite another farmer by starting a split screen, a LAN session, or sending your invite code.

Multiplayer options in Stardew Valley

Since multiplayer was added to Stardew, other updates have added additional options and farms to make playing together easier. Here are the options you have access to in multiplayer and what they mean.

Starting huts
These huts are pre-built on your farm, one for each cooperative farmer you wish to invite.

Kahyts classification
Nearby cabins are built close to the main courtyard, while the separate layout gives you the feeling of having your own space. Don't worry if you don't like the default location. You can always ask Robin to move them.

Margin of profit
If you've played Stardew co-op, you'll probably find that more hands means more work gets done, and you can find it very easy to stack up money. You can reduce the profit you earn from items to give your party a little more challenge.

Building motion mode
This setting can be changed while playing on your farm. It determines who on the farm can ask Robin to move buildings. You can set it to "everyone", "host only", which means farm owner, or "building owner only", meaning your friends cannot move through each other's cabins and other buildings.

Money style
Remark:This option is now controlled by reading a green book on a table in Mayor Lewis's house, not in the game menu.

Separate money means you and your friends have separate wallets – a good choice if you have a friend who won't stop buying seeds when you're trying to save for that backpack upgrade. Shared money means that all farmers share one bank account.

Tips for farming together in the Stardew Valley cooperative

How to start a co-op farm in Stardew Valley with multiplayer (4)

The most important things to remember in the Stardew Valley co-op are what you share with your friends and what you do yourselfdoesn'tpart. These things remain separate:

  • Inventory
  • Skill Levels
  • Energy
  • Relationships

What you share:

  • Farm space
  • Gold (unless you play with 'separate' money enabled)
  • The most important thing: your time

It makes perfect sense that in a co-op game the clock advances no matter who is organizing their inventory or searching Pierre's shop. What I forgot is how much time I spent on those things while playing alone. I may have spent as many of my days in some kind of menu, pausing the game clock, as I did actually running around. In multiplayer, no farmer's clock stands still and the days fly by at breakneck speed.

The sun always sets for hours before I feel like I've achieved what I hoped to achieve: terribly realistic. The pressure to perform quickly isn't a flaw in the multiplayer design, but it's a new way of thinking about play that I had to consciously adapt to. If you absolutely must pause, the guest player can press the standard T key to open the text chat window and type "/pause" to force the game to freeze.

Inevitably, a friend will sign off with something in their inventory that you needed. You can steal what they've kept from you by looking at what looks like a chest of drawers in their cabin. If you choose to invite friends to one of your existing caches, they will create a new character and start with a basic set of tools, no skill levels, and only the starting amount of daily energy. My partner was forced to dig through my abandoned clothing and weapons to find cast-offs with which to dive into the lowest levels of the mines, discovering that he did not have the energy to irrigate all the crops in the mine. farm.

Stardew Valley status on various platforms

Currently, Stardew Valley does not offer cross-platform play between devices, and at this point it seems unlikely that will ever happen. It's a shame, butXboxIn,Speel station4, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation Vita and mobile users cannot play multiplayer with PC players and vice versa. You can only play with other friends who own Stardew on the same platform as you.
