Many people have asked this question many times, from GM, GSM to car salesmen and even the potential car salesman. It is not easy to find a definitive answer to thathow many cars a car salesman should sell per month. Because of the different waysthe car purchasing process is handled at a specific dealer. Someone who is considering selling a carcareeralways wonders what is expected of him or her. On the other hand, GM or GSM is trying to appeal to the sales force. This is to ensure that they hire quality salespeople and not slackers. They don't want sellers who do nothing but burn through fresh, high-quality items.

I have visited and worked with many car dealers and talked to many about how they sellto hand incars. I have found that there are as many or more variations in the car sales process as there are salary plans. The car sales stage and the dealer's sales process directly influence the number of cars a car salesperson must sell per month. I want to share with you some of the different methods that car dealers across the country use to sell carsto hand invehicles and enter the number of cars sold per car on sale.

The number of cars depends on the process

Some dealers have a car salesman to start withMeet and Greetand move on to the next customer when the deal is closed or the sales manager takes over. Then the sales manager, accessories manager, finance manager and a delivery person or doorman take care of the rest of the car purchasing process. This process ensures that the car seller gets back to the parking lot quickly. The car salesman will typically spend an hour or less per customer day. This allows them to spend more time selling cars. On average, the number of cars a car salesperson sells per month, when comparing staff to their traffic, should be 30 to 36 for a good/top salesperson.

The number will rise and fall slightly from month to month depending on the season. But on average the best/good car salesman should sell 30 to 36 cars and 40 or more is not unrealistic. This partly depends on the number of working hours. If you work more hours, you can sell more cars. In this environment, the average car salesman can sell between 15 and 25 cars per month.

The salesperson who sells an average of less than twelve cars per month to a dealer using this type of sales process may be considered substandard and, depending on management, may be fired for poor performance. Again, this depends on the requirements of management, the dealer and the expectations they have of their salespeople, and this rule is by no means set in stone.

Full service and dealership cars for sale

Now let's move to the other end of the car buying process and look at how many cars a car salesman needsto sellmonthly. The way it works at some dealerships is that the car salesperson completes every step of the car sale, including delivery and follow-up. The salesperson continues with the customer regardless of whether the car salesman or sales manager closes the deal. The seller then collects all the necessary information and presents and sells accessories and other add-ons. This includes paint, dust protection and rust protection. The seller will provide the Finance/Business Manager with information to prepare the paperwork. When the finance manager is ready, the car salesperson accompanies the car buyer to the F&I office.

While the customer is with the financial manager. The seller ensures that the car is filled with fuel, cleaned inside and out and license plates are installed or transferred. Whether the seller does some of this or has a doorman take care of it, the seller must make sure it gets done. The car dealer then inspects the vehicle after it has been prepared for delivery. Once the customer is ready at the F&I office, the car salesman will take him to his new vehicle and give him a thorough orientation. The car salesman ensures that the customer is satisfied with his new car. Plus prepares them for a CSI questionnairecar manufacturer. The sales process in the above scenario has a major impact on the number of cars a car salesman needs to sell per month.

It all comes down to the process

The above process can take the seller a few hours on average and three or more hours on busy days. The amount of time spent with each customer differs between the two scenarios. So when it comes to how many cars a car salesman needs to sell per month with this type of car sales process, the numbers look very different. The number sold by a good/top car salesman is somewhere between 15 and 20 cars per month. A consistent top producer can range from 18 to 25 per month and sometimes a few more in the best months. On average, the substandard car salesman at this dealership will likely sell fewer than nine cars per month. However, I have seen many dealerships with salespeople who have only averaged 7 or 8 cars per month for years.

Don't think that a car salesman's income directly reflects how many cars a salesperson sells per month. Car salesstockand salary plans can make a difference. Thatstockrates, spiffs, bonuses, producer spiffs and competitions can have a significant impact. Remember the first scenario where I told you about the car salesman who, after closing the sale, moved on to the next customer, the car salesman? Salespeople who sold between 30 and 35 cars per month made 65-70,000 per year. Salespeople at dealerships that were full-service, like the example above. They sold 18 to 25 cars a month and made 95,000 to 120,000 a year. As you can see, the salary plan and commission structure are more important. The number of cars sold does not necessarily reflecthow much does a car salesman earnannual.

So when it comes to answersHow many cars a car salesman should sell per month depends on manyfactors, including car sales skills. Would you rather sell 30 cars a month and make 70,000, or would you rather sell 20 cars a month and make a six figure income? The simple answer is that you need to sell as many cars as possible. But I didn't think this would help answer the question. We entered the car business to make money, so pay more attention to your income. It is more important than trying to sell more cars for the sake of the number of cars per month.
