Although most fruits and vegetables do well in the refrigerator, there are some that should not be stored in the refrigerator at all.
Vegetables
Cold temperatures can cause some produce to lose their flavor and become mealy (tomatoes and stone fruit, below), while other vegetables should never be refrigerated (shallots, onions, garlic). Very soft avocados can be stored in the refrigerator to extend their shelf life for a few days, but cold temperatures can affect the flavor. Plump pumpkins and hardy roots like potatoes will last well on the counter for weeks – sometimes months! - at a time, as long as they are not in direct sunlight. A cool, dark place is best. (But not so cold that they can be stored in the refrigerator.)
Here are all the vegetables that don't require refrigeration before eating:
- Garlic stems
- Garlic
- Ui
- Potatoes
- tomatoes
- Winter squash: acorn, butternut, delicata and kabocha
- Fresh herbs: parsley, mint and basil*
*Store in a jar of water, like a bouquet of flowers
Fruit
While most fruits do well in the refrigerator (mangoes, apples, ginger), many fruits do better when stored out of the refrigerator, on the counter or in a pantry. When stored at room temperature, some fruits are softer and juicier (and more enjoyable), such as melons, stone fruits and mangoes. Other fruits lose their crunchy texture more quickly in the refrigerator, such as apples and pears. Although you can keep them in the refrigerator if you like chilled fruit, they are also great to hang on the counter.
Here are all the fruits that should not be refrigerated before eating:

- Peer
- Plums
- Avocado's
- Kiwi's
- Mangoer
- Nectarines
- Peaches
- Persimmons
- Pineapple

This time I was not happy with my box. It was a lot of space. I received 4 small potatoes, a pack of cherry tomatoes, a spaghetti squash. 3 small sweet potatoes, 2 small avocados. 1 small butter per pumpkin. That was all.

If Misfits has a suggestion box… I've asked for watercress several times and was wondering if you could start offering watercress even if it's prepackaged. I bought it in my box every week. I see you have a hydroponic salad sometimes, so why not watercress? And if it is not fresh, then at least pre-packed!

I've been a maverick fan/customer for a while too! I love it!! I moved to a new state last year and was SO happy that mavericks still deliver to my new home. I tell everyone I know. Even if I've chosen my own items for my box, the day it arrives feels like a Christmas present. I like deciding what to do next with everything. Definitely eat more vegetables now!

Thanks for the info about the refrigerator. learned something new! Herbs such as a bouquet of flowers on the counter and apples do not need to be kept in the refrigerator.

I tend to change my cooling policy with the seasons. In the winter, things sit on the counter longer than in the summer (no central air conditioning). In August I like to store peaches in the refrigerator, sacrificing a little flavor if they avoid turning to mush within two days.

Misfits is a really good service. I like the convenience and the products are usually good. Some disappointments now and then, but for the most part I'm very satisfied. The bread selection is great! The addition of cold items is great...I received my regular box of produce in a nice insulated box which kept my oranges cold so I'm wondering why we can't add some cold items like eggs, cheese etc in the same box . It would be very useful, because ordering a separate cooler is too much. I would also like some organic white flour and preserves.

Love mushrooms, oranges and pears. Easy ordering and delivery. My only suggestion is that you figure out how to use the last of the plastic. Cardboard boxes and paper bags can be used in our gardens. I recycle what I can. We must take care of the planet for future generations.

I just wanted to say that I have had a few orders from your company now and have been very pleased with almost everything. There have been a few things that have gone moldy a little too quickly, but that could be my fault. All in all I have been very satisfied. I even shared some of my boxes with one of my friends who is single and doesn't spend much, so it's easier for me to share with her. Thanks again for the good service and products.

You are great! I live in a rural area with a very minimalist supermarket. The fact that you can order all these fresh ingredients without having to drive an hour to the nearest major supermarket is such a game changer.

Overall I like my boxes, but I don't like the editing process. I would like to delete all unwanted pre-selected items before adding the items I want, when the required dollar amount is reached. At the moment that is not possible ☹️

I always pay for 2 boxes. Sometimes I get two, sometimes I get one. The food is usually fine, but we forget to order and we're not big fans of avacados. Like other vegetables.

For example, I would leave oranges on the counter, but there are little flies everywhere.

Thanks for this guide and information!! I have struggled with certain items in the past, so now I better understand why!! I have been very lucky with the beautiful products I receive. The price and convenience make me smile! I will be happy when the shipping delays are a thing of the past as I rarely receive my orders on my chosen delivery date and I have changed it several times in the hope that I could improve things, but to no avail! Shout out to customer service to keep me informed, respond to my emails in a timely manner, and provide compensation if necessary. These reasons will keep me a Misfits Market subscriber ????
