TRUFFLE HUNT: Is the number of truffles found per pig affected by space and or how often are they picked up? (2024)

I know it ismath on the probability of a pig finding more truffles based on friendship points, but that's not what I mean.

If I release my pigs in a 3*3 pen, will they have the same chance of finding truffles as an 8*8 pen (the numbers are hypothetical and for convenience)?
Does the frequency with which I collect the truffles influence the number of truffle finds?

For background, my partner and I typically get ~22 truffles per day. That's after you let them go and let them sit all day. But one day my partner picked up 54 truffles in one day! He said this was because he picked them up more often instead of taking a big step. Is this plausible?

They can't find truffles where they've already found truffles. If you want them to find 16 truffles, you will need at least a 4x4 space. In no other way does the space they have increase the amount they find. Space can only limit how much they can find, so you want them to have plenty of room.

The amount or frequency you pick up has no effect on finding truffles... as long as they have room to find truffles. Your partner just got really lucky one day or found truffles that he missed the past few days.TRUFFLE HUNT: Is the number of truffles found per pig affected by space and or how often are they picked up? I think you can find fewer of them in the 3*3 enclosure, although picking them up won't affect the pigs' find rate unless they are limited by the spaces available.

As imnvs said, pigs need open ground to dig up truffles, and if I'm paying close attention, they don't seem to be looking for open ground just to dig one up. This is my concern about an overly limited truffle farm. So if you have a stable full of pigs and want to get the most out of truffles without having to grab them every day, make sure they have plenty of extra space to dig when they feel like it. Setting up your stable near green areas on these farms (forest, beach, river land) is good if you still want to do a lot of farming, as converting these useless areas into truffle farms is a good option.

Well, on paper that's not the case, but I bet it is, because without much space the pigs spread out and fill their tiles quickly, they don't wander around. Normally, pigs like to wander around, find an area and place most of their truffles around it. Picking them up obviously eliminates this problem.

It seems that you get more truffles if you follow a pig and pick them up.

Yes, it's because of the way the pig looks for tiles. When it is completely empty, it can be placed close to anything.

I can never find truffles. I have a lot of unpruned trees, but I didn't find it a problem because these areas are almost completely covered in trees. So the truffles would just come from somewhere else, right? But I only get an average of half a truffle per day, not counting the extras I get as a foraging skill bonus. The pig is in complete friendship. What am I overlooking?

How many empty tiles do you have?

They cannot produce truffles if they are on grass, they must be on empty ground.
(If you're thinking "but I've had truffles in the grass before" it's because the truffles spawn next to the pig, so if the pig is on bare ground next to the grass it can spawn a truffle in the grass. They are also hard to see, so sometimes they are missed and the grass spreads more around them.)

I haven't fenced any of my animals and they have now eaten half the pasture so there is a lot of bare ground. I don't know exactly how many, but at least 100 tiles within reach of the shed.

Not spawning on grass may be part of my problem. In early spring there is only grass, trees and crops and I think I see more truffles as the grass is eaten away.

Would it help if I fenced my crops so the pig can't wander around and find truffles?

Yes, and it's also easier to find them to pick up when you don't have to hunt everywhere.TRUFFLE HUNT: Is the number of truffles found per pig affected by space and or how often are they picked up? (11)Personally, I like to keep pigs in a separate stable with a fenced area, so that other animals do not get in the way of their truffles. I don't know if it really helps, but it doesn't hurt, none of the other animals actually need to be outside to produce products - they all have heating and automatic petters, so they are perfectly happy.TRUFFLE HUNT: Is the number of truffles found per pig affected by space and or how often are they picked up? God, these guys are high maintenance! I'm not building a whole barn and a fenced coop for a pig. I need that space so I can build another bunny house!

As well as the game essentially "pushing" the truffle over tiles in the original unearthed direction if that tile was not usable.
