Power banks are generally rechargeable lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries used as a portable power source for electronic devices. Although they are generally considered safe, they can ignite or cause burns if they do not work properly.
Understand the product
Before purchasing a product, ask questions such as:
- Does this power bank come with operating and safety instructions?
- How do I charge the power bank?
- How do I charge my device with the power bank?
- Are the different ports clearly indicated?
- What type of cables and chargers can I use? Are these supplied with the power bank or do I have to use my own power bank?
- How do I know when the power bank is fully charged?
- How much time does it take to fully charge?
- What happens if the power bank is fully charged but still connected to the charging source? Is there an automatic shut-off?
- What safety features does this power bank have?
- What security testing and certification information is available?
Security features
Look for power banks that come with safety protection features such as overload protection, short-circuit protection, over- or overheating protection, overcurrent protection, or overvoltage protection.
Instructions
Always read the operating and safety instructions and understand how to use the power bank. Pay attention to warnings and avoid incorrect handling of the product.
Who is the producer?
Consider a trusted brand and buy a power bank with a warranty. Find out if there is an authorized service center you can contact in the event of a product-related problem or incident.
False production
Please note that certain power banks may be incorrectly advertised as 'SPRING Singapore Approved' or 'Enterprise Singapore Approved'. Please note that Enterprise Singapore (formerly SPRING Singapore) does not require any registration or approval process for power banks. Suppliers must ensure that power banks meet relevant safety requirements before being sold in Singapore.

Avoid charging the power bank in places where heat builds up, for example in a bedroom. On your bed.
- Avoid short circuit: Keep your power bank away from metal objects such as coins, paper clips and keys. Do not insert metal objects into the USB output or the terminals of the power bank. Short circuits may pose a risk of excessive heat, fire or explosion.

- Do not apply excessive force to the power bank or drop the power bank: Doing so may damage the internal components of the power bank and risk short-circuiting the device during use. Always inspect the power bank and discontinue use if leakage, strange odors, color changes, deformation or unusual events are detected.
