For longer stays we recommend having a kitchen in your hotel room. However, many people often don't think about the difference between a kitchenette and a "full kitchen" - at least in hotel terms.
Most extended stay hotels offer a 'full kitchen' and are equipped with essentials such as pots and pans, dishes, glasses, utensils, etc. The basic appliances typically provided in a full hotel kitchen are a sink, a full-size refrigerator, a furnace . and dishwasher. Other hotels offer a kitchenette, which provides a separate area with a mini-fridge, microwave, and usually an extra sink and some counter space.
Note: Most "full kitchen" hotels offer a stove and some offer full ovens.
While your home is under construction, you'll likely spend a lot of time meeting with contractors. Therefore, you may be short on time and open to some simple solutions to speed up meal times. With this in mind, we recommend planning a few meals that can be prepared on the stove or require no appliances at all.
We recommend that you buy food that does not require cooking and does not spoil easily. Please note: hotels often offer free breakfast. But if your hotel doesn't serve breakfast, you can buy a box of cereal for everyone to share, and a few cartons of unrefrigerated milk. Peanut butter and honey sandwiches are a great lunch dish. Snack packs, crackers and nuts or seeds can contribute to a wide variety of foods at a low cost. You can also easily eat fruit that has a long shelf life, such as bananas and apples, throughout the day or take it with you from the hotel.
If you need crockery, we recommend ditching the disposables and buying a set of sturdy plastic cutlery for each family member. Invest in some food storage containers and use them in place of plates and bowls. This allows waste to be removed from your room and leftovers can be easily stored in the refrigerator or simply sealed for later use. This habit can make cleanup quick and easy.
If you need something specific and before purchasing it yourself, we recommend asking your ALEHotel Solutions Coordinator for a complete list of what is included in your hotel before you check-in. If you need to buy something, make sure you keep your receipts.
