Get started with an SD card (2024)

When setting up an SD card on your Android device, you can choose between portable storage or internal storage.

When formatting an SD card for portable storage:

• You can store files such as photos and videos on the SD card.
• You cannot install apps on the SD card.
• You can transfer the SD card between devices.

When formatting an SD card for internal storage:

• You can load files such as photos and videos onto the SD card.
• You can install apps on the SD card.
• You cannot transfer the SD card between devices.
• The SD card can be used to supplement your device's storage space.

Configure a new SD card

Important:Formatting your SD card will permanently delete data. Back up your files before formatting the SD card.

1. On your device, swipe down from the top of the screen.
2. Tap the notificationSD card found.

Reformat your SD card from portable to adoptable
