Singer Kitty Wells, whose hits like "making believe" and "It was not God who made Honky Tonk Angels" made her the first female superstar in country music, died on Monday.
The singer's family said she died peacefully at home after complications of a stroke.
Her Solo recorder career lasted from 1952 to the late 1970s, and she made concert trips from the late 1930s to 2000. That year she announced that she was stopping the road, although she occasionally performed in Nashville and elsewhere.

The song opened the way for women to present their views on life and love in country music.
The song was controversial enough for Grand Ole Opry to ask Wells not to do it, and some radio stations were reluctant to play it.
"They are getting away with much more today," Wells AP said in 1986. "They are more (sexually) suggesting today."
In 2008, the Library of Congress announced that the Record of Wells had been added to the national registration of works of unusual historical profits.
That year, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum also put her with an exhibition about her career.
Her second hit, "Payment for the Back Street Affair" in 1953, was also written as a response to an earlier hit, Webb Pierces "Back Street Affair".
She was known as a graceful, elegant and family oriented person.
"What I did is satisfactory," she said in the AP interview in 1986. "I didn't want to change anything."

She was born Ellen Muriel Deason in Nashville, daughter of a railway braceleman.
She started playing the guitar at the age of 14 and soon appeared at Dances in the Nashville region.
Wells married Johnny Wright, half of a duo named Johnny and Jack, in 1938, when she was not yet 20 years old, and soon started touring the duo.."Johnny Wright died on September 27, 2011.
In the late 40s they appeared on Grand Ole Opry.He played with her during her career and their long marriage.
Son Bobby Wright, one of her three children, played a vertical sailor in the TV program "Mchahales Navy" from 1962 to 1966.
