THE NEXT RELEASE IS FROM THE OFFICE OF CONGRESSMAN MARY MILLER
As one of the few family farmers left in Congress, I understand the challenges facing those who work tirelessly to feed and fuel our nation. Rising input costs, higher diesel prices and historic inflation are making it increasingly difficult for farmers to survive.Food security is national security, which is why American farmers need a Farm Bill that supports crop insurance and the agricultural risk safety net.
I recently introducedPreserving the U.S. Farm Constitution, which would force the Ministry of Agriculture to assess the impact that the installation, operation and decommissioning of solar panels has on the health of agricultural land, livestock, drainage and vegetation. I am deeply concerned that America's best farmland is covered in solar panel installations.
Food security is national security, and if we cover our best land with solar panels, we will become dependent on our adversaries to feed American families.Protecting America's farmland is critical to protecting production agriculture, and I am pleased that the 2024 Farm Bill will incorporate concepts from the Preserving America's Farmland Act to address the loss of agricultural production on farmland due to the installation of solar panels to guess.
During the Farm Bill passage on May 23, I plan to introduce an amendment to close the loophole that allows THC cannabis to be marketed to children and teens under the definition of hemp. We must prevent teenagers and young children from being exposed to addictive and harmful substances.
I recently asked Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona about the Biden administration's latest Title IX rule, which allows biological males to enter the private spaces of women and girls. Secretary Cardona is ignoring her duty under the original intent of Title IX to protect women's and girls' sports and their safety in private spaces such as restrooms and locker rooms.
There are real consequences for Biden's radical Title IX rule.In West Virginia, five female students were barred from participating in athletics after refusing to compete against a biological male. In Wisconsin, young girls were forced off their volleyball team because they felt uncomfortable sharing a locker room with a biological man. In Illinois, there was a situation where girls were threatened with disciplinary sanctions for refusing to share a bathroom with biological males.
Parents are horrified by what Joe Biden and Secretary Cardona are doing to our daughters, and I will introduce the Congressional Review Act to block Biden's radical Title IX rule to protect our daughters and save girls' sports.
Last week, I asked Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra about the Biden administration's commitment to withhold funding from religious hospitals that refuse to perform gender reassignment surgeries on young children. Secretary Becerra is complicit in Joe Biden's efforts to force doctors to perform gender reassignment surgeries on children, even if they have religious concerns.
Secretary Becerra admitted that the Biden administration will indeed withhold federal funding from religious hospitals if doctors fail to meet their inhumane mandates.I will continue to stand up against the brutal mutilation of our children, and I will remain a voice in Congress for the parents outraged by Joe Biden's radical agenda.
As we approach the Farm Bill hearing on May 23, I want to hear from farmers and voters across the state and central Illinois before this important hearing on how we can best serve Illinois farmers. Agriculture is the lifeblood of our local economy and protecting the family farm is my top priority.
