The smallest and thinnest needle is the4mm nano needle, 32 gauge, which is as thin as two hairs.
For a comfortable injection experience, shorter needle lengths are recommended and preferred. The larger the gauge, the finer the needle will be. For example,32G is thinner than a 31G needle.
Results: Twenty-one participants orally reported the thinner needle (Calibre 27(G)) as the least painful compared to the medium needle (23 gauge; p=0.013) and the thickest needle (21 gauge, p=0.004).
22 gauge needles
Depending on the facility, 22 g needles are also occasionally usedroutine blood draws. The slightly smaller size can help the phlebotomist with slightly smaller veins they may encounter in older children or adult patients.
