Can I use WAN as Ethernet?
The WAN cable used to connect the router and modem can be a regular Ethernet cable. I recommend using a CAT5e or CAT6 cable for the connection.
These two ports can be easily found on the back of routers. A LAN port is used to connect computers and other client machines. On the other hand,a WAN port is connected to an external network such as the Internet. A LAN port is also known as an Ethernet port, network connection, and network port.
Ethernet cabling is extremely reliable and much faster than WAN speeds.. LAN speeds are typically 1,000 Mb/s to 40,000 Mb/s. Compare that to the typical WAN speed of 150Mbps and now we have some speed. Easier to maintain and much cheaper to build.
You can configure the router's WAN port to be used as a LAN port. This is useful when using the router in repeater mode where the WAN port is not needed. As a result, you may have another LAN port.
In all homes and most small businesses, the WAN port connects to a high-speed modem, such as a DSL or cable modem, which in turn connects the router to the Internet.. This port is labeled "WAN" or "Internet", depending on the manufacturer.
According to Muller,Most routers have 100 Mbps WAN portsand to achieve download speeds greater than 27 Mbps, you need the fastest Gigabit Ethernet.
WAN Mode: WAN mode isUsed to connect a wired WAN source (such as DSL, cable or satellite modem) to provide an Internet connection to the CradlePoint Router and its clients. Disabled Mode: The Ethernet port is turned off and cannot be used.
LAN supports much faster data transmission than WAN
In comparison, the WAN is significantly slower (about 150 Mbit/sec) for several reasons: There is a loss of speed when data packets are transmitted over long distances. Internet service providers (ISPs) often cap speeds on public WANs.
- Go to WAN setup menu >> General setup. Choose WAN2. ...
- Step 2: Configure a WAN2. Activate a WAN2. ...
- Step 3: Configure the internet connection. ...
- Step 4: Configure WAN2 details. ...
- Connect the router's LAN port 2 to the Internet service (e.g. NBN connection)
Disadvantages or disadvantages of WAN
➨The initial investment costs are higher. ➨It is difficult to maintain the network. Requires skilled technicians and network administrators. ➨There are more bugs and problems due to wide coverage and use of different technologies.
