Following on from Meredith's baby snappers in season eight, Jo Karev has now adopted a baby after volunteering at a shelter at Station 19. Okay, so Jo probably just committed a crime, but it's nice to see her happy according to the writersput her through hell when she met her birth mother. This is why it's likely that Jo and Alex will go the adoption route – even if they doGrayenjoyed themselvessurprising pregnanciesrecently.
Grayhas been hinting at a Jolex baby for a while now. In season 12, Jo hears about Alex and Izzy's frozen embryos from when the latter had cancer, and they briefly talk about their future together. Alex wanted to have a child with Jo, but they both decided it wasn't time for them yet. Fast forward to season 16, when Jolex gets legally married on Halloween, Jo jokes with Alex about his pregnancy. Lately, she has been going through a rough time and has fallen into depression after learning why her mother left her at a fire station. (Jo's biological father sexually abused her biological mother.) The reason she contacted her mother in the first place was to get a genetic test to find out her medical risks. . . in case she and Alex wanted to have a baby.
In the season 16 finale, we see Jo trying to heal from this experience by helping abandoned babies at the station. As she talks to Ben, she immediately bonds with the newborn. The end of the episode shows her with the baby at home. Jo calls Link and tells him it might have been "too much, too soon." You think?!
Jo and Alex look like they might want to have kids together at some point, even though Jo just secured her position as a competitor and Alex is trying to save Pac North as boss. Jo's bond with the child feels pretty much like serendipity at this point. While Alex will certainly be concerned, we know he'll be Team Jo through all of this because he's a former child in the system himself. Okay, but what about the legal ramifications of Jo taking a baby from the firehouse? Well, Meredith kidnapped Zola a while ago and now look at mother and daughter! People probably can't get away with murderGray, but they get away with pretty much everything else.
In the middle ofDeLuca and Meredith break upand bitter Jackson and Maggie parted ways,Alex in Joremain one of the rare steadfast couples on the show. We just want them to be happy, with or without a lot of joy.
