Why does the car purchasing process take so long? (2024)

In most cases at other dealers financingthe process takes so long.

The seller has to send the financing application to a number of banks to get you approved, and then they only approve you for a certain car within a certain price range. There isn't really much to negotiate about. And then you go back and forth. You change cars, you juggle between the sales manager and the financial manager.

Everyone has a vested interest in the agreement, and it includes three or four different entities. You have the salesperson who wants the commission, you have the sales manager who has to do the numbers, you have a finance manager who gets a spread on what was done, and then you have a bank who ultimately tries to buy a trade. So yes, you have a lot of people involved in the transaction.

It takes time. Especially if it's all over the phone and they're also trying to edit you because they want to wear you down. They know they can't get you into the $30,000 car with just $500, so they try to get you into another car. It's just a process. It's a war of attrition, if you like. It's part of their sales process.

But here at Complete Auto Sales we know we can get something done and the most it takes to get a response is 15-20 minutes. We tell you: this is what it is, this is what we can do.

At that time we can get you on and off as soon as you have taken out your insurance. It seems like the longest part is getting through to your insurance agent. That is why we started offering insurance internally, because it speeds up the process.

We realize what a pain in the back it isbuy a car. Personally, I wouldn't like to do that and it is our main job. We have not ordered any sales personnel. The prices are what they are. There is no negotiation, no real negotiation. It's a pretty simple, straightforward process.

If you're prepared, we can do it in 30 minutes. Usually we wait for you to come with pay stubs or proof of insurance or proof of residency, or something like that. But once you get everything done, it's 30 minutes. The time you spend here also depends on how long it takes you to drive the car during the test drive and sign the papers.
