The Whopper, Burger King's signature burger, has been around since 1957 – more than 60 years (viaThe moss). Known for its flame-grilled quarter-pound beef patty, nothing about the chain's founding suggested a future in anything vegetarian-related. Just beef and lots of it. Even with all the variations of the Whopper over the years – from 2008's Angry Whopper to 2016's Whopperito and even the Upside Down Whopper in 2018, perNational Franchise Association- the beef from the burger was the only thing that was always left. But in 2019, that all changed thanks to their partnership withImpossible food.
Burger King launched the Impossible Whopper – a burger with all the classic combinations of a regular Whopper, including mayo, sliced white onions, crispy lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, crunchy pickles and sesame bun (viaburger King). However, this variant had one big difference: the four-pound grilled beef patty from which the Whopper got its name in 1957 no longer existed. This time, Whopper's classic beef patty was replaced with a plant-based version from Impossible Foods. The replacement allowed Burger King to maintain the look, feel and taste of its signature burger, while reducing carbon emissions and serving vegetarians.
According toVegetarianBy choosing an Impossible Whopper over a traditional Whopper, Burger King customers saved as much greenhouse gases as it would take to drive 320 million miles – and that was in the year 2020 alone. But is the Impossible Burger just as good for you like him? for the environment?

Nutritionally, there are some important differences between Burger KingsImpossible whopperand the traditionalWhopper. Both provide about 30 grams of protein and about 60 grams of carbohydrates. Although the Impossible Whopper has fewer calories, it really beats the traditional Whopper in terms of cholesterol and fiber content. Compared to the 90 milligrams of cholesterol in the traditional Whopper, the Impossible Whopper contains about six times less. Additionally, the Impossible Whopper has more than twice as much fiber as a traditional Whopper – at almost 7 grams compared to the traditional Whopper's 3 grams.
Sodium, however, is one department where the Impossible Whopper falls short. Although both options contain a lot of salt, the Impossible Whopper has about 180 milligrams more. Most of the extra sodium can be attributed to the fact that according toBurned by scienceClassic beef patties contain about 80 milligrams of sodium, while most plant-based patties contain about 370 milligrams — and that number is equivalent to the amount found in an Impossible burger patty (viaImpossible food). It is an important element toBefore seasoning plant-based meat, consider seasoning, which could explain the remaining 110 milligrams of extra salt.
But does all that salt outweigh the good? Not necessary. With less cholesterol and more fiber, it is still slightly healthier than a traditional Whopper – but the difference is so smallFast food nutritiondon't consider it a healthy alternative. Really, it just works better for the planet. And you know, it's a good option for people who don't want to eat meat.
