This classic iPhone has just been labeled 'vintage' by Apple (1)

Apple has labeled the iPhone 6, released in 2014, as a "vintage" product.

Apple considers a product vintage when it stopped selling it "more than 5 and less than 7 years ago." Apple considered a product obsolete when it stopped distributing it more than seven years ago, and has just added to itiPhone 6 added to the list of vintage products.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus on September 14, 2014. They had 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens respectively. They shipped with iOS 8 and featured Apple's A8 chip and M8 co-processor. They were lighter, thinner and had significantly larger screens than the iPhone 5, with a much higher resolution too. Together with iOS 8, Apple improved payments with Apple Pay thanks to the new NFC chip in the models.

This is because Apple continued to sell the iPhone 6 in some regions after the Plus model was discontinued. The last version of iOS that can run on an iPhone 6 is iOS 12 from 2018.

Apple still occasionally repairs the iPhone 6 and provides repair services and support. This fix came in iOS 12.5.6 and was backported from iOS 15.6.1.
