The world's top Apple expert reveals the exact year the iPhone will become 'obsolete' (2024)

Apple is expected to replace the iPhone with a NEW everyday computing gadget.

An expert has revealed the timeline for this monumental shift – and it's not far off.

Top analyst and former insider Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple expects to replace the iPhone in just ten years – in 2032.

In its place would be an AR device - that's augmented reality.

AR is when computer-generated images are overlaid on the world around you.

Right now you can see AR in apps like Pokemon Go.

But tech companies – including Facebook, Microsoft and Google – are rushing to develop wearable AR devices.

Some of these already exist, as is the case with the Microsoft HoloLens.

Most experts believe the device will be a pair of glasses that will allow you to change the world around you.

This could include overlaying map directions, showing information about what you see, or playing gamesAR/VR-videogames.

In a note to investors, seen by techblog9to5MacKuo explained that according to the timeline, Apple will replace the iPhone in ten years.

“Currently, there are more than a billion active iPhone users,” Kuo said.

“If Apple's goal is to replace the iPhone with AR within 10 years, that means Apple will sell at least a billion AR devices within 10 years.”

Importantly, Kuo says the success of these glasses will depend on how separate they are from the iPhone.

“If the AR headset is only positioned as an accessory for Mac or iPhone, this will not be conducive to product growth.

“An AR headset that works independently means it has its own ecosystem and offers the most complete and flexible user experience.”

Apple is expected to launch an early version of these glasses next year.

These will compete with other early AR/VR devices such as those from FacebookOculus Quest 2on HTC Vive.

According to Kuo, this early device won't rely on the iPhone for performance - and will "come with the same level of computing power as the Mac."

The headset is tipped to have two Sony-built 4K microphonesOLED screens.

This would indicate that the glasses could also support virtual reality – like AR, but where you are completely immersed in a computer-generated world.
