The locals of Las Vega say they feel forgotten when the city is spreading (2024)

Las VEGAS (class) - For people who do not live in Las Vegas, it is a name, as it said, can make people smile.

It is a place that international tourists have on their bucket lists and those who live in Las Vegas are proud, but also know the pain.

"I feel good to let it all hang around."Singer Shania Twain sings exactly what many people are going to do on Las Vegas Strip.

People come to the comic to let go.

It is a melting pot of shows, games, good food and nightlife.

But beyond the comic there is a friend of the locals who feel forgotten.

"Unless there is something that I absolutely have to see, it's just no longer your daily go-to," said Jaqueline Cooper.

Cooper added that it is just not how it used to be.

Her safe space is in her four walls in Henderson.

"Population growth is probably the most shiny problem," she said."It was very stable and it jumped in the last 15 years."

It has risen so that Clark County was fewer than two million people in 2010.

Last year more than 2.33 million came to their houses.

In the past year, around 127,000 new residents were welcome in the Silver State.

"I miss going to the swimming pool on the locals and being able to swim," said Kristin Downing.

Cooper's long -term friend Downing lived in Las Vegas.10 years ago.

She wants to go back, but she is priced.

"You have to pay for everything," Downing said.

Now she pays for parking.

"I remember Valets at the Caesar Forum Shops, I had a Cavalier, stopped and served my Sunburst Cavalier in Palmen, no shame," she said.

"They used to have a local evening," said Cooper.

She also said that the comic used to be a playground for the locals who could go on the comic, could roll online and immediately find endless local discounts.

That is no longer the case.

So 8 news now went on a walk through the comic to learn how we got on this point.

"It is a sports city, that's what it will be," shared Adam Flowers.

And then the inevitable.

“I thought we emphasized the new Nevada State Bird. The orange traffic cone that is so much construction! "Dick Feeny screamed.

Flowers and Feeny are founders of Vegas Specialty Tours.

A tour that brings tourists and the locals back to the 40s and 50s.

It emphasizes those who are responsible for a large part of the resorts we know.

"Benjamin Siegal was born in 1906 in Williamsburg, New York," said Flowers.

Also known as "Bugsy", an American crowd and the driving force behind the Las Vegas strip.

"You are not in Vegas until you are north of the Sahara Avenue Strat Tower, Fremont Street Downtown, it's Las Vegas," Flowers said.

When the iconic resort, the flamingo that Bugsy opened in 1946.

It is the third casino that came on the comic that started to develop in 1941.

"All casinos were brought back from the strip," Feeny said.

Mirage is the best example of what casinos looked like many years ago.

"Don't forget that you can attract a hotel from the street and the park in front," said Michael Green van Unlv.

He is a historian in Las Vegas who described the development of the comic, who called some 'the desert'.

"Originally the comic was far from the city for many people, but it was an easier place to visit," said Green.

But a visit to so many other things now costs more than ever.

"If you balanced inflation, it was cheaper, but I think it was less great than many of them thought at the time," he said.

In the meantime, the income flow for Las Vegas has turned.

Green said the money came from two third games and a third of all the other, food and entertainment.

Not anymore.

"If someone asks me or Las Vegas for the better or has changed in bad, I always say yes," said Green.

Because there is better and there is even worse where you live, it just depends on who you ask.

"I still love Vegas, I know this seems like a sludge session, and it isn't," said Cooper.

"I just want to see them focus on the locals again," Downing added.

"We will be far in a short time," said Flowers.

Las Vegas is growing and now it's about the growing pain.

A hundred years ago the population of Las Vegas was only 3,000.
