Steam's updated mobile app is available to everyone on Android and iOS (2024)

The valve has just been updatedThe Steam mobile appopAndroidIniOS, and it's vastly different (in a good way) than the previous version. In addition to a new redesign, it comes with a few new features that should make it easier to log into Steam without having to enter a Steam Guard code.

Firstly, the app lets you view your entire game library, which is displayed in a grid-like format with game covers and titles that you can search using the included filters. You can remotely update and download games on your PC and receive notifications about sales, friend requests and more.

The app also introduces a new "store browsing experience for mobile screens", as well as a way to search and purchase games, complete with the community and news you've come to expect in the desktop version.

Valve is working on support for QR code logins for Steam Deck

The update lets you scan a QR code to enter your account on your computer or laptop, eliminating the need to enter your username, password, or Steam Guard code. When you log in with a QR code, Steam says the app will display a confirmation page, along with a map and geolocation of where your device is. From here you can verify that you are the person logging into your account, and not a hacker.

If you don't want to use your camera to log in, you can also confirm that you're logging in with the "Approve" or "Decline" prompt that appears in the app. While this allows you to skip entering a Steam Guard code, you will still need to enter your username and password. The app also displays a list of authorized devices, so you can remotely log out of Steam if you've left your account logged in on someone else's PC, find out when they last used your account, or restrict access withdraw completely.

Steam was the first to launch the beta versionof the app in August. As someone who can never keep track of their Steam password (and finds Steam Guard codes annoying), this is all a welcome change. Steam says it's also working to bring its new QR code logins to Steam Deck and also updating its Chat app with "several bug fixes," coming to Android today, while iOS is "coming soon."
