iPhone User Guide

You can return to the default settings without deleting your content.

To save your settings, make a backupiPhone before resetting them to default settings. For example, if you're trying to solve a problem and resetting to default settings doesn't help, you can restore your previous settings from a backup.

  1. Go to SettingsReturn iPhone settings to their default settings (1)> General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.

  2. Choose an option:

WARNING:If you select the Delete all content and settings option, all your content will be deleted. To seeWis de iPhone.

    • Reset all settings:All settings, including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, location settings, privacy settings, and ApplePay cards, will be deleted or reset to their default settings. No data or media is deleted.

    • Reset network settings:All network settings will be deleted. Additionally, the device name assigned in Settings > General > About will be reset to "iPhone" and manually trusted certificates (such as for websites) will be changed to untrusted.

Mobile data roaming can also be disabled. (To seeView or change cellular data settings on iPhone.)

Resetting network settings removes previously used network and VPN settings that were not installed by a configuration profile or mobile device management (MDM). Wi-Fi turns off and then back on, leaving you disconnected from whatever network you're on. The Wi-Fi and Ask to connect to networks settings remain enabled.

To remove VPN settings installed by a configuration profile, go to Settings > General > VPN & device management, select the configuration profile, and then tap Remove profile. This will also remove other settings and accounts from the profile. To seeInstall or remove configuration profiles on iPhone.

To remove the network settings installed by MDM, go to Settings > General > VPN & device management, select the management, and then tap Remove management. This will also remove other settings and certificates from MDM. See 'Mobile device management (MDM)'Implementation reference for iPhone and iPad.

    • To reset keyboard dictionary:You add words to the keyboard dictionary by rejecting words that iPhone suggests as you type. Resetting the keyboard dictionary will only delete the words you added.

    • To reset home screen layout:Returns the built-in apps to their original layout on the home screen.

    • To reset location and privacy:Reset the location services and privacy settings to their default settings.
