Capital fundcompanies can have a number of problemswith costsand stop their investments, but that doesn't stop them from paying very lavishly.

US recruitment consultancy Heidrick & Struggles has released its 2023 compensation report for North Americacapital fundcompanies, and the numbers are impressive.

While salaries, bonuses and private equity firms are (and always have been) a healthy chunk of cash, the real money is, as always, in the coffers.interest paid. This is the percentage of a successfully completed private equity deal that those who worked on it (from partner to associate) get to keep. When deals are successfully completed, it can be very high.

Heidrick & Struggle data shows that at the top a managing partner in a capital fund with approx.can expect at least $1 billion in Assets Under Management (AUM).to earn at least $3.5 million. in salary and bonuses, plus approx$35 millionin carried interest over the life of a fund (typically about five years).

The higher the assets under management, the higher the interest transferred. Although exact figures are scarce for managing partners at mega funds with more than $10 billion. USD in AUM, Heidrick & Struggle data suggests that a director of such a fund could earn 100 million.

If you plan to become a managing partner in a $10 billion fund. under management, this all sounds very good - assuming the future resembles the past. However, at the moment, many private equity funds are struggling to exit their investments, meaning interest may not be carried, or certainly not at the levels seen in recent times. - That's probably why foundations like itApolloare suddenly eager to balance compensation against carried interest as an incentive for partners to help climb out of the equation.

Moreover, many people in private equity receive no realized interest at all. You must be an investment professional to get this. Heidrick & Struggles says some employees are receiving it, but even in a good year their payouts are predictably smaller. However, Heidrick says that even with over 40 billion in funds associated with it, he can (or could expect) USD 4 million in AUM.juniors in investment banking.

Heidrick & Struggles does not explicitly say that private equity compensation is likely to decline from these highs. They say wages are likely to remain stable next year, with “exceptions”.
