Which MacBook models does this settlement apply to?
Any MacBook with a butterfly keyboard is part of the class action suit, including the MacBook (all), MacBook Air (2018-2019), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016-2019) and MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016 -2019).
What was the problem?
MacBook users have had that for yearscomplained about stuck, repetitive and broken keyswhen typing with MacBooks. The problem can be traced back to Apple's use of butterfly keys, which have a lower profile than scissor keys. Apple started replacing the butterfly keyboard with the Magic Keyboard16-inch MacBookProi 2019.
Which states are involved in the class action?
Californië, New York, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, Washington en Michigan.
What if I moved?
As long as you lived in one of the above states at the time of the repair, you're not too bad.
How much does the settlement cost?
Apple has agreed to pay $50 million to a joint settlement fund, from which attorneys have agreed to collect approximately $13,599,113 in attorneys' fees and no more than $2 million in legal costs. In addition, $1.4 million will be used to cover the administrative costs of the settlement. It earns users approximately $33 million.
What is the deadline for submitting a claim?
All claims must be submitted by March 6, 2023
How do I know if I am part of the class action?
Email notifications were sent to all potential members on December 12, but did not arrive until the first week of 2023. If you haven't received one yet but are expecting to, please check your junk or spam folder.
Who receives payments?
There are three groups in the class:
- Group 1:Received two or more top case replacements from Apple or an authorized service provider within four years of purchase, based on Apple's records.
- Group 2:I received a top case replacement from Apple or an authorized service provider and the claim form states that the repair did not resolve the keyboard issues.
- Group 3:One or more keyboard replacements (but not a top case replacement) obtained from Apple or an authorized service provider and stating on the claim form that the repair did not resolve the keyboard issues.

What if I am part of Group 1?
The settlement shows that Group 1 is the only group that will not have to claim compensation, because their payment will be automatic.
What if I am part of Group 2 or Group 3?
Both groups 2 and 3 must submit claim forms to receive compensation, which must be mailed or emailed within 120 days.

Sorry, Apple won't refund anyone who hasn't paid to have their MacBook repaired.
What should I do if I no longer own the computer?
It doesn't matter, although you do have to show proof of repair if you belong to group 2 or 3.
What are the next steps in the process?
Attorneys provided class information to the settlement administrator on December 2, and notices were issued as of December 12. The final approval hearing is scheduled for February 10, 2023, and the deadline to file a claim is March 6, 2023.
How can I make a claim?
If you qualify for a refund check, you will receive an email or postcard with a 10-digit unique ID and a 7-digit PIN. To complete the process, you must certify that all pre-filled information is true and correct.
When will I receive the payment?
