Introduction
This manual uses a 9 volt battery and a digital multimeter to test the functionality of the speakers and wiring.
What you need
-
Step 1 Test speakers and cables
-
Speaker Test Option 1: Connect a 9 volt battery to the speaker wires, positive wire to the positive end of the battery and the negative wire to the negative end of the battery.
-
If a pulse is generated in the speaker, the speaker still works properly.
-
The same practice would also apply to the tweeter.
-
Do not leave the 9 Volt battery connected to the speaker for a long time. This may cause damage to the speaker.
-
-
Trin 2
-
Speaker Test Option 2: This option requires the use of a digital multimeter with a continuity setting.
-
This setting is usually below the resistance setting, but can have its own setting as shown in the figure.
-
-
-
Trin 3
-
To test the continuity of the wires themselves and both ends of a single wire and test continuity.
-
Connect each end of the single cable to the positive and negative cables of the multimeter. If there is an open circuit through the speaker, a continuous tone will come from the multimeter and/or the meter will not read "OL" (open).
-
-
Trin 4
-
Connect both ends of the speaker to the positive and negative leads of the multimeter. If there is an open circuit through the speaker, a continuous tone will come from the multimeter and/or the meter will not read "OL" (open).
-
-
Trin 5
-
Capacitor testing: This requires a digital multimeter that can test capacitance.
-
Connect the positive lead of the multimeter to the positive lead of the capacitor and vice versa for the negative lead. If the capacitor works, the multimeter will give a value that corresponds to the values indicated on the capacitor housing.
-
NOTE: If the capacitor value is -5% of the specified base value, the capacitor is considered bad.

Would you perform the same procedure for Beat Solo headphones? The right side works fine, no sound comes out of the left side. There is continuity throughout the left circuit.

Would this be the same procedure for Beat Solo headphones? There is no sound from the left earpiece, but sound from the right. There is continuity throughout the circuit on the left. The connecting cable is also fully serviceable.

what if your speaker is from the late twenties and has 4 wires?
