Get recommendations and guidelines for cleaning your Mac, iPad, iPhone, Apple Vision Pro, screen or peripheral.

Apple products are made from a variety of materials, and each material may have specific cleaning requirements. To help you get started, here are some tips that apply to all products:

  • Use only a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cloths, towels, paper towels or similar objects.

  • Avoid excessive drying as this can cause damage.

  • Disconnect all external power sources, devices and cables.

  • Keep liquids away from the product unless otherwise stated for specific products.

  • Make sure that no moisture gets into the openings.

  • Do not use aerosols, bleaches or abrasives.

  • Do not spray cleaning products directly onto the item.

Can I use disinfectant on my Apple product?

Using a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe, a 75% ethyl alcohol wipe, or Clorox disinfectant wipes, you can gently wipe the hard, non-porous surfaces of your Apple product, such as the screen, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces. Do not use these cleaning products on the Apple Vision Pro as they may damage the device. Do not use products that contain bleach or hydrogen peroxide. Make sure that no moisture gets into the openings and do not immerse your Apple product in cleaning products. Do not use on fabric or leather surfaces.

MacBook, MacBook Pro en MacBook Air

When cleaning the outside of your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air, first turn off the computer and unplug the power adapter. Then use a damp, soft, lint-free cloth to clean the outside of the computer. Make sure that no moisture gets into the openings. Do not spray liquid directly onto the computer. To clean the screen of your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air, first turn off the computer and unplug the power adapter. Dampen a soft, lint-free cloth with only water and then use it to clean the computer screen.

To remove hard-to-remove smudges or fingerprints on the screen or exterior of your Mac, use a cloth dampened with a 70 percent solution of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to gently clean the screen or exterior of your Mac laptop. sweep.

2016 and later MacBook Pro models with Touch Bar and Touch ID: Clean the Touch Bar and Touch ID (power button) on these computers the same way you would clean the screen. To clean your iMac's screen, dampen the cloth that came with your iMac (or another clean, soft, lint-free cloth) with just water and then wipe the screen clean. To remove hard-to-remove stains, dampen the cloth with a 70 percent solution of isopropyl alcohol (IPA).

Do not clean your iMac's screen with a cleaning solution that contains acetone. Use a cleaner intended for use with a monitor or screen. Never spray cleaning solution directly onto the screen. It may drip into the screen and cause damage.

Displays

Peripherals

Wireless or USB keyboards, mice and trackpads from Apple

First switch off the device. If your device uses removable batteries,remove the batteries. (If your device is connected, simply disconnect it from your computer.)

Next, clean the outside of your device with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water. Do not allow moisture to enter the openings and do not use aerosols, solvents, abrasives or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide.

If your Magic Mouse or Magic Mouse 2 is not tracking correctly, there may be hair or other debris on the sensor lens. Turn the mouse over and inspect the sensor window with bright light. If you see dirt, use compressed air to gently clean the sensor window.

Cables

To clean your Apple cable, disconnect each end of the cable from your device and the power adapter. Then use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth to wipe along the cable. If the cable is still not clean, use a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with soapy water to wipe the cable. Use a dry cloth to wipe the cable and remove excess moisture. Make sure that no moisture gets near either connector on the cable. Allow the cable to dry overnight before using it with your device again.

iPhone-accessories

iPhone case - silicone or transparent

To clean your silicone or clear iPhone case, remove your iPhone from the case. Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth to wipe the outside and inside of the iPhone case. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide to clean the iPhone case.

iPhone case – FineWoven material

To clean your FineWoven iPhone case or reduce scratches, first remove your iPhone from the case.

  1. In a clean container, mix 1 tsp. (5 ml) of liquid detergent in 1 cup (250 ml) of water.

  2. Dip a lint-free cloth into the soapy water, wring it out slightly, and then gently rub the cloth over the cabinet surfaces for 1 minute.

  3. Wipe the housing with a separate cloth slightly moistened with fresh water.

  4. Wipe the case with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, taking care to remove excess moisture.

The material may look different and show wear over time as the fibers become compressed during normal use. Some scratches may fade over time.

iPhone case - leather

The leather iPhone case is made of natural leather. The appearance will change as you use it. It can develop a patina and change color due to your skin's oils and direct sunlight, further enhancing its natural appearance.

Cleaning the leather iPhone case can affect the color. If you choose to clean this case, remove it from your iPhone first. Use a clean cloth with warm water and mild hand soap to gently clean the iPhone case. You can also use a mild detergent with a dry, clean cloth. Leather cleaners and conditioners can change the color of leather.

Keep your iPhone case away from prolonged intense sunlight, heat and moisture. Exposure to water, oil, makeup and colored materials (such as denim) can stain tanned leather.

iPhone Smart-batterijtas

Remove your iPhone from the case to clean your Smart Battery Case. Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth to wipe the exterior of the cabinet. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide to clean the cabinet.

When cleaning the internal Lightning connector, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and do not use liquids or cleaning agents.

iPhone MagSafe-accessoires

The MagSafe Charger and MagSafe Battery Pack contain magnets that can attract dirt during daily use. Wipe any dirt from the magnetic ring before cleaning this accessory.

Unplug your MagSafe charger or MagSafe battery pack from the electrical outlet.

Then dampen a microfiber cloth with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol and dry silicone in the center of the charging area. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide to clean your MagSafe Charger or MagSafe Battery Pack.

iPad-accessories

Apple pencil

Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth to clean your Apple Pencil. Using the damp cloth, wipe the body of the Apple Pencil from one end to the other end. Do not wipe the tip itself or the USB-C connector of the Apple Pencil (USB-C). Make sure that no moisture gets into the housing of your Apple Pencil.

iPad Smart Keyboard, Smart Keyboard Folio, Smart Cover en Smart Case – polyurethaan

To clean your Polyurethane Smart Keyboard, Smart Keyboard Folio, Smart Cover or Smart Case, first remove it from the iPad. Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Wipe the front and inside with a soft, lint-free cloth.

To clean your Magic Keyboard, first remove it from the iPad. Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Wipe the front and inside with a soft, lint-free cloth. You can use a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox disinfectant wipes. Make sure that no moisture gets into the openings and do not immerse your Magic Keyboard in cleaning products. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosols, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide to clean this product.

Avoid prolonged contact with other materials as color transfer may occur.

iPad Smart Cover a Smart Cover - leer

Treat your iPad with care to maintain its appearance. If you are concerned about scratches or scuffs, you can use one of the many cases sold separately. To clean the iPad, disconnect all cables and turn off the iPad (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button, then slide the slider on the screen). Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Prevent moisture from entering the openings. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide to clean iPad. The iPad has an oleophobic coating on the screen; Simply wipe the iPad screen with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove the oil left behind by your hands. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide to clean iPod classic.

Ipod Nano

To clean iPod nano, disconnect all cables, turn off iPod nano, and slide the Hold button to HOLD. Then use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Prevent moisture from entering the openings. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide to clean iPod nano.

On the 6th generation iPod nano, which does not have a hold button, simply press the sleep/wake button to turn off the device before cleaning.

Ipod Shuffle

To clean iPod shuffle, disconnect all cables, turn it off (slide the switch to OFF), and use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Prevent moisture from entering the openings.
