Immerse the sink
- Before cloggingsinkwith standing water, use a cup or container to remove the water. Some methods may require the addition of fresh water.
- Always try to dive first. Small clogs can often be loosened with ahead stamp. A simple plunger with a flat edge, which creates a seal over the sink hole and applies the necessary pressure to loosen the clog.
- Make sure the sink has enough water to submerge the plunger head and place the cup over the drain opening.
- Hold the seal and plunge up and down quickly, keeping the plunger below the water level and lifting it only an inch or so on each upward stroke.
- If you have a dishwasher with a flexible hose, install oneemphasisover the line or use a vice to clamp the line together. If you are concerned about hose damage, disconnect the hose and place a pipe cap over the pipe or drain inlet. This prevents water from flowing back into the dishwasher line while you submerge it.
- If diving doesn't work, move on to other methods to unclog a sink.
Tip: Always keep separate stamps for use in the bathroom or kitchen.
2
Use boiling water to unclog the sink
- Bring half a liter of water to the boil over high heat.
- Remove standing water from the sink.
- Carefully remove the boiling water from the stove and pour it in a steady stream directly into the drain.
- The water should start to drain. If not, let the water in the sink cool completely and repeat the process one more time.
Tip: Do not use this method if the drain is connected to a PVC pipe. Boiling water can soften or damage the material.
3
Investigate waste disposal
When emptying a sink with awaste processing, confirm as soon as possible that the device is not the problem.
- Enable waste management. If the blockage is disposable, it can ruin driving.
- If the drain is not active, check that it is not overheated. Activate the reset switch on the side or bottom of the device. Then turn it back on to see if this clears the clog. Check out our guide atHow do you clean a trash can?.
4
Dissolve Clog with baking soda mixture
A baking soda mixture offers a way to unclog a sink naturally, as it proves to be gentler on your pipes than normalchemical drain openers.
- Pour a cup of fresh baking soda down the drain, followed by a cup of white vinegar.
- Place a rubber stopper or something similarmanhole coverabove the drain opening.
- Wait 15 minutes to allow the vinegar and baking soda to clear your drain. Then remove the drain cover and run hot water from the tap down the drain to clear the blockage.
5
Use a wet-dry vacuum cleaner to clean the sink
- Imaginewet dry vacuumfor wet use. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
- Place the end of the hose at the entrance to the drain and then tightly seal the end of the hose and the drain.
- If the clog is on one side of a double sink, plug the other side of the sink with a rubber stopper.
- Set the vacuum cleaner to the highest setting. The vacuum pressure should loosen the blockage.
6
Use a drill on the top part of the pipe
- Route the cable from the drill (also called aPlumbing hose) into the drain opening until you encounter resistance.
- When the end of the cable touches the suspected blockage, pull an additional length of cable from the end of the machine and hold it loose.
- Lock the cable length and then start turning the crank on the device. The cable drills into the blockage and pushes forward; pull out more cable if necessary.
- You should be able to feel a change in resistance as the drill breaks through the blockage. Withdraw the drill and then rinse the tube with warm tap water.
- If you encounter no resistance, the blockage may be further down the pipe in the branch drain.
7
Use a drill on the siphon and wall pipe
- Go under the sink and place oneemmerunder the pipe to collect excess water
- Unscrew the connections of the PVC pipe that holds the P-trap (the bent piece of pipe) to the vertical and horizontal drain pipe.
- Check the drain lock for blockage. If you can remove debris from the siphon, reconnect it and run water into the sink. If the sink does not drain, the clog may remain further down the pipe.
- Remove the horizontal pipe that connects to the pipe in the wall.
- Insert the drill into the wall pipe as described above.
- After removing the dirt, reinstall the pipe and siphon and tighten the connections by hand. Do not overtighten as the plastic connections may crack.
- Rinse the sink with hot water, which should drain quickly. Be sure to check under the sink while the water is running to ensure there are no leaks.
- When you have finished your work, carefully clean and dry the area under the sink.

Take measures to prevent blockage
These steps can help you avoid repairing a clogged sink.
- Do not overload the drain. Do not grind more than 1 cup of food waste at a time and do not throw inorganic substances down the drain.
- Make sure that no grease, oil or coffee grounds enter the drain or waste disposal. Collect this waste in disposable containers or bags and move them to an outside container. Place coffee grounds in a compost pile.
- Freeze a mixture of half vinegar and half water in ice cubes. Toss one or two in the trash every now and then to keep them fresh. The bottom ice and slight acidity also help scrape away the buildup in the drains and pipes.
- Run warm water from the tap after each use of the sink to keep the drain clean.
