The Nintendo Switch OLED has arrived, and as with previous versions of the system, battery life on these consoles in handheld mode is painfully poor.

Nintendoofficial liststhat the OLED's battery life can last between 4.5 and 9 hours, depending on the game. More demanding titles such asThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the WildInSuper Mario Odysseecould be played for 4-5 hours, while small indie games or using the game in standby could allow the system to survive longer.
This battery life is a step up from the original Switch's 2-5 hour battery life that owners faced in 2017. The increase in battery life is also a slight improvement over the Switch Lite's 3-7 hours, but still feels subpar. the grand scheme of things.
All things considered, there's still an improvement here, however small, and considering the price of the OLED system is $50 more than the original, you could argue that the purchase is still worth it despite all the benefits of the system.
However, if you plan on taking a long flight or traveling in the future, make sure you bring an external battery to keep your OLED system charged throughout the trip.
