Description of the Meadowdale Beach Park Hike
Meadowdale Beach Park is a beautiful park with miles of coastline overlooking Puget Sound and the Olympic Games. The walk through Lund Gulch to reach the park is a sight to behold in itself, with a vibrant forest and flowing stream setting the mood. Bring a picnic and some blankets and make an afternoon of this route.
This walk can be busy on nice weekends, but for a quieter experience you can also go outside rush hour.
The route is easy to moderate, with moderate elevation gain and a path that is very easy to follow. Dogs are also allowed on this walk, but must be on a leash.
The walk starts from the parking lot at the end of the street. There are facilities here such as toilets, picnic tables and an information board.
Go up the obvious path to the stream. It's a bit of a steep descent, but there are steps built into the mountainside that make the journey much easier.
It is not a far walk to the beach, so enjoy the peace and quiet of the forest while walking. Listen to birds, look for salmon in the stream, check the foliage and see if you can spot wildlife.
You first walk through an alder forest before entering a mature Douglas fir forest.
The trail runs along the north side of the creek, making it very easy to follow. The end of the trail near the beach splits into a loop, but if you go in either direction you'll reach the coast. The most interesting way is to turn left and look downstream from the bridge and then walk past the Ranger station, where there is a picnic area and volleyball courts.
There is a tunnel here under the railway tracks. Walk through it to get to the beach, stroll along the metal grille built over the water. Please note that in heavy rain the grille may be flooded and your feet may get wet.
Walk onto the sand and look out over the mountains, islands and water. Throw down a blanket and have a picnic, dip your toes in or brave a dip, explore the beach - it's up to you!
When you are ready to return, simply return to the parking lot.
Note: This trail is occasionally closed for habitat restoration. BillSnohomish County-websiteor call park management to make sure it's open before visiting. These closures are temporary.
