Here's a look at Gen Z's shopping habits and how they differ when they shop online and in physical stores.

According to arecent researchAmong the shopping habits of Generation Z, the products that consumers in this age group (defined as 18 to 24 years old) purchase most often online are those in the apparel and footwear categories. A whopping 57% of Gen Z shoppers – or nearly three in five – say they buy these items online.

This is followed by entertainment products and electronics, with 44% and 40% of them purchased online respectively.

Beauty products and merchandise related to leisure, sports and hobbies are also popular items that Gen Z consumers purchase online. 32% and 28% of respondents say they buy products in these two categories on the Internet.

Gen Z's online shopping behavior also shows that jewelry and accessories are also often purchased online, with just under one in three (28%) of the Gen Z population receiving these items digitally.

This is followed by:

  • Groceries: 24%
  • Auto parts or accessories: 21%
  • Pharmaceutical products: 21%
  • House and garden: 21%
  • Children's products: 19%

    Generation Z shopping behavior (offline)

    The survey results on the shopping behavior of Generation Z show that shopping styles in physical stores are very different. For example, while just under one in four Gen Z consumers say they do their grocery shopping online, a large majority of them (86%) say they do so in-store.

    This group of young shoppers also buy clothes, shoes and pharmaceuticals in-store, with 56% of them saying they do so offline (compared to 57% and 21% who do so online).

    This is followed by beauty items, which more than half (51%) of Gen Z shoppers purchase in-store. Products related to leisure, sports and hobbies and home and garden make up the top six product categories. Gen Z customers prefer to buy offline with 38% and 36% respectively.
