As a general rule, laying hens eat about 9 to 5 kilos of feed in the first ten weeks.
If you have five chicks, a 20kg bag of feed should see you through the growing years.
Be careful not to switch to layer feed too quickly, otherwise it can promote early growth and cause problems for the chicks.
We use a non-medicated chick starter and start feeding them treats when they are a few weeks old (strawberry tops, lettuce and lots of leftovers)
If you give treats, make sure you provide a container with sand or fine gravel so they can digest the food. Naturally, they ate their food from the ground, taking small stones and sand with them.
We don't give them anything seasoned with salt or sauces/marinade
As with all recommendations, take your specific circ*mstances into account and observe your chickens to ensure they are getting enough food and water.
These are our general guidelines.
Newborn chicks up to 1 week old: 3 ounces per day
Chicks from 1 week to 1 month: 5 ounces of water per day
1 month to 4 months: 10 ounces per day
Adult chicks: 16 ounces per day

Newborn chicks up to 1 week old: 40 chicks
Chicks from 1 week to 1 month: 25 teenagers
1 month to 4 months: 12 young adults
Adult chickens: 8 adults
If you have 4 adult birds and a 5 gallon water bucket, you will only need to refill the drinking water about 3 times a month.
